Blog: December 2011

31st December 2011

Gabriela has gone on her 1st solo flight today to stay with her friend Bella and family in Brisbane!! It's a 2 hour flight from here. She was excited at the prospect of seeing Bella, but nervous (a little) about how she'd get there by herself ;-)) Bless!! Bella's family have a swimming pool and Gabriela will be in and out all day long ;-)

30th December 2011

While not unexpected, it was still devastating today to hear that my beloved cousin Kerin passed away this morning from liver cancer :-(( He made it through Christmas and his mother's birthday. I am so sad. I just hate cancer so much and what it does to people and families!!!!!!

26th December 2011

Christmas Day was great!! Rafael woke up before Lela and I could hear him - jump out of bed and run downstairs!! He was so excited :-)

We went spent Christmas Eve at our friends house and they didn't go to bed until 1 am!

Rafael said he loved what Santa brought, except there seemed to be less presents under the tree than usual! Cheeky boy ;-)

I was woken at 6:30am by a massive thunder storm. It sounded like it was on top of our house :-( It rained a lot in the morning, then the sun came out and was nice all afternoon, then it started again - and just rained and rained! Typical Melbourne :-(

We enjoyed a nice lunch outside, just us and my Mum, very quiet.

Rafael received a Lego book, which seems to be his favourite gift by far, as he takes it everywhere with him :-)

They also received a drum kit - lot's of banging happening :-(((

We saw Dr Peter last week. The MRI does not correlate to the PET scan. If anything, there might be 1 area the same at T10, which could be bone marrow. Therefore, we are waiting for the next Gallium PET to compare! That will be on Jan 16th.

Santa didn't get to bring Rafael's long awaited 4 front teeth! But Rafael told me yesterday that he thinks he might get one for New year's Eve ;-)

We took the children to see Happy Feet 2 today. They liked it :-)

Dom is on holidays for a week and I have days off :-) We will now spend the time trying to tidy up our house and garage and get rid of some accumulated junk ;-)

Merry Christmas everyone and all the best for 2012 xxx

23rd December 2011

Gabriela's 9th birthday!!!

Happy Birthday Princess :-))))

She is not having her party until January, so we just had a small afternoon tea today :-)

Rafael was invited to be a mascot tonight at Melbourne Heart v Melbourne Victory soccer game. They only had a place for 1 adult and 1 child, so Lela and I planned to go to the movies instead.

However, during the day, the lady called to say someone had pulled out and there was now a place for Lela too. At 1st, she wasn't too keen on the idea, but once we got there, they both got over their nerves quickly!

Gabriela ran on with a player from Melbourne Heart and Rafael ran on with Harry Kewell!! I'll add the photos :-))

Rafael really enjoyed watching the match, Gabriela - not so much ;-) We left the boys to it at 1/2 time and took a leisurely walk along the Yarra, with Lela doing cartwheels most of the way :-))

16th December 2011

Heading off to RCH this morning for Rafael's appointment with Dr Peter :-)

Our start to December has been so busy!

Gabriela & Rafael finished school last week and both met their new teachers for next year. We are very happy that Rafael will be in Mr Menzies class, as he is the same teacher Gabriela had in Grade 2 :-)

We attended the school's end of year church service, where the Grade 3 Williamstown choir snag, as well as all of the other school choirs. We really enjoyed it a lot :-)))

The Charity Ball was a great night. A huge storm started just as we were leaving home! We all dressed up, drank a few wines and even danced! The MC got Rafael up on stage to have a chat, and Rafael told him that if he got some money, he would use it to buy Lego! Our friend even won the 1st prize raffle!

The money raised was also shared with Josephine, who came out of palliative care to make it to the Ball. Sadly, she lost her battle with stomach cancer last week :-(

Still waiting to receive some photos! Rafael got up and played the drums - quite good!

The end of year events have kept us busy indeed - Soiree, transitions, me being on a reserve roster and speech Night - where, Gabriela received a reward for Citizenship :-)) I was so tired, as I'd come in from LA that morning, and almost thought of not going along. So glad I did, to see Gabriela called up on stage :-)

I was very lucky to get that LA trip, as I was able to do ALL of the Christmas shopping - whew!

We attended the awesome Challenge Xmas party again. Was sad to not have 2 of our close families there this year :-(

Last Saturday we took Rafael to the new RCH for his MRI. The hospital looks so good, we will have to learn to navigate our way around ;-) The Meerkats enclosure was closed, so we are going in early today for a look :-)

Rafael got in on time for his MRI. The canulla went in, no probs this time! Dom stayed with Rafael and I waited outside, and waited, and waited!!! Arghh!! After 1 & 1/2 hours they left him have a 1/2 hour break and then back in for more. It seems that they weren't happy with his breathing (not holding his breathe long enough). Finally, 4 hours later, we were out of there!! Insane how long it took. Rafael laid perfectly still the whole time :-)

Last Friday we went to Peter Mac for their Christmas party. Gabriela & Rafael had a great time :-) After that, we went upstairs to visit Prof and wish him and the team a Merry Christmas :-) Whilst we were there, I got them to book Rafael's next Gallium PET scan - 16th January. Just 1 more month to wait to see how the last dose of Indium worked!!!
